Safer Formulas
Orly Nail Laquer
Orly and its sister brand Spa Rituals are among nail polish makers that have heard consumer concerns and removed the so-called "toxic three" -- toluene, dibutyl phthalate, and formaldehyde -- that can impair breathing and cause birth defects and cancer. Orly went a step beyond other brands and also took out a fourth ingredient, formaldehyde resin, spokesman John Galea said.
"We have been very diligent in working with the Nail Manufacturers Council to eliminate these chemicals," he said. "We did a lot of research to change the formulation so that it doesn't affect the wearability our customers look for."
